Job summary

Job Details: Job Location: Los Alamos, NM 87545, Position Type: Full Time, The Communications Specialist 4 will support a major, multi-year business transformation initiative at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position will lead strategic and tactical communications supporting the implementation of a modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, replacing legacy business systems with SAP S/4HANA and integrated applications.

Working closely with program leadership, change management, functional workstreams, system integration partners, and other stakeholders, the Communications Specialist will develop and execute communications strategies designed to keep employees informed, engaged, and prepared throughout the transformation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and execute strategic communication plans supporting a large-scale, enterprise-wide business transformation.
• Partner with program leadership, change management teams, workstream leads, system integrators, and internal stakeholders to identify communication needs and develop effective messaging.
• Create, write, edit, and manage communications for employees, managers, executives, and other stakeholder groups.
• Develop content across multiple communication channels, including newsletters, web content, presentations, executive communications, announcements, correspondence, and multimedia materials.
• Maintain consistent messaging across the program and ensure communications are clear, timely, accurate, and aligned with project objectives.
• Translate complex technical, business, and organizational changes into understandable communications for diverse audiences.
• Support organizational change management efforts by communicating how upcoming changes will affect employees and what resources, training, and support will be available.
• Develop executive-level communications and effectively capture the voice and messaging style of senior leadership.
• Coordinate with multimedia professionals to strategically incorporate graphics, photography, video, and other visual content into communication campaigns.
• Support communications across multiple functional workstreams while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
• Establish and maintain communication protocols, processes, and standards across the program team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and internal partner organizations to support employee engagement and adoption of new business processes and systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Physical Science, Life Science, Social Science, or a related field and a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
• Extensive professional writing, editing, and content-development experience.
• Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, editing standards, and professional communication practices.
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies for large, complex, or enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Strong project-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage communications across multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and competing priorities.
• Experience working directly with executive-level leaders and developing executive communications, correspondence, messaging, presentations, or similar materials.
• Ability to capture an executive's voice and independently develop polished communication materials with minimal oversight.
• Experience developing and executing multi-channel communication campaigns with defined objectives and measurable outcomes.
• Experience incorporating multimedia content, including graphics, photography, and video, into communication strategies and campaigns.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and other standard business communication tools.
• Working knowledge of generative AI tools, including prompt development, evaluation of AI-generated content for accuracy and quality, and responsible use of AI within organizational policies.
• Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate with leadership, technical teams, functional organizations, external partners, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting a national laboratory, Department of Energy organization, federal agency, government contractor, or other large government organization.
• Experience supporting organizational change management initiatives and developing communications designed to improve employee awareness, engagement, and adoption.
• Experience supporting a large-scale, multi-functional business or technology transformation.
• Experience with ERP implementation or modernization projects.
• Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementation or transformation efforts.
• Experience developing newsletters and other recurring employee communications.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional teams consisting of individuals with diverse technical and organizational backgrounds.
• Familiarity with procedures, policies, process documentation, or communications related to facility operations.
• Ability to identify and coordinate communications involving external or third-party stakeholders affected by organizational or system changes.

This is a hybrid position supporting Los Alamos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The selected candidate must reside within approximately two hours' ground commute of the work location. Work arrangements are subject to management discretion and may change based on program needs.
