Job summary

The City of Lexington seeks a Communications Specialist to support digital communications, including the intranet, website and social media, and to coordinate public and internal communications. You will build relationships with public officials, partner agencies, the media and the community, and help raise awareness of programs and events through timely, accurate communications.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or 2 years related work experience in PR/communications.
  • Experience or internship in public relations, communications, media, or related field.
  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a NC license within sixty days and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, coordinate and maintain City digital communications including intranet, website and social media.
  • Manage internal, public and community relations communications.
  • Promote public awareness of City programs and events.

The Communications Specialist performs professional and administrative work to prepare, coordinate and maintain City digital communications including intranet, website and social media; internal, public and community relations communications; and public awareness of programs and events. Establishes and maintains professional relations with public officials, partner agencies, public, and news media.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in public relations, English, communications, journalism, or related field or two years related work experience
  • Some experience or internship in public relations, communications, media, or related field
  • Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Overtime as needed.
