Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is hiring a Communications Specialist for a full-time, exempt role at Haverford College with a hybrid work arrangement.

You will develop communications plans, craft audience-focused messaging, and produce content that advances institutional priorities with the Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications, you will write for websites and admissions materials, support media relations, and manage multiple

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional communications experience.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications: Develop and implement communications plans for institutional initiatives, campaigns, and priorities.
  • Writing and Messaging: Create compelling content for websites, admissions materials, advancement communications, newsletters, and reports.
  • Media Relations Support: Assist with media outreach and press materials to increase visibility.
  • Client and Project Management: Manage multiple communications projects and coordinate with writers, designers, and team members.

Total Compensation
  • Salary : Salary range begins at $70,000

About the Position

The Communications Specialist reports to the Vice President forMarketing and Communications and is responsible for developingcommunications plans, creating audience-focused messaging, andproducing content that advances Haverford College's institutionalpriorities and engagement goals. The Communications Specialist willwork closely with colleagues across the College and serve as acommunications partner to academic and administrative departmentsto support initiatives related to enrollment, advancement, academicexcellence, institutional reputation, leadership communications,and media relations.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Communications (40%)

  • Develop and implement communications plans for institutionalinitiatives, campaigns, and organizational priorities
  • Identify communications goals, target audiences, key messages,and content strategies
  • Collaborate with clients to support enrollment, advancement,fundraising, and reputation-building objectives
  • Provide communications recommendations and messagingguidance

Writing and Messaging (40%)

  • Develop messaging that translates complex information intoclear, compelling, and engaging communications for both internaland external audiences
  • Write and edit content for websites, admissions materials,advancement communications, campaign collateral, newsletters,executive communications, reports, and marketing materials
  • Research, develop, and tell stories that highlight theachievements, impact, and priorities of the College and itscommunity

Media Relations Support (10%)

  • Assist with media outreach efforts and the development of pressmaterials
  • Support initiatives that increase visibility and awareness ofthe College

Client and Project Management (10%)

  • Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff,administrators, and other campus partners
  • Participate in planning discussions, working groups, andcommittees as appropriate
  • Coordinate with writers, designers, and other team members toensure successful project execution
Line of Report

The Communications Specialist reports toVice President for Marketing and Communications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, PublicRelations, English, Marketing, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of professional communications experience
Professional Competencies
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience developing content across multiple communicationschannels
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders to developstories and communications content
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability tobalance multiple priorities and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, ormission-driven organizations
  • Experience supporting admissions, enrollment marketing,advancement, or fundraising initiatives
  • Experience with media relations
  • Familiarity with AP Style
