Job Summary

Total Compensation

Salary range begins at $57,000.

About the Position

Haverford College is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our team. Reporting directly to the Director of Talent Acquisition, Equity, and Belonging, this versatile role plays a critical part in supporting the lifecycle and well-being of our staff. The HR Generalist will design and drive professional development initiatives for staff and managers, champion employee wellness, and provide essential administrative support for campus benefits and talent acquisition operations. This HR Generalist position is ideal for entry to mid-level HR professionals seeking an opportunity to apply their commitment to employee growth and wellness, while also gaining more experience across the HR spectrum.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Professional Development & Learning (40%)
    • Program Design & Delivery: Create, implement, and evaluate comprehensive professional development and training programs tailored for both staff and managers
    • Managerial Training: Develop targeted resources and workshops for managers focusing on leadership, performance management, and building inclusive team cultures
    • Needs Assessment: Partner with department heads to identify skill gaps and design continuous learning opportunities that align with the College’s strategic goals
    • Onboarding Integration: Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to ensure new hires smoothly transition from onboarding into ongoing professional development pathways.
  • Benefits Administration & Wellness Support (40%)
    • Employee Inquiries: Serve as a primary point of contact for faculty and staff regarding day-to-day benefits / coverage questions, providing clear, empathetic, and timely guidance; serve as primary point for benefits related problem-solving matters
    • Billing & Reconciliation: Assist the Director of Benefits Administration with monthly benefits billing, data auditing, and financial reconciliation
    • Wellness Programming: Plan, coordinate, and execute campus-wide wellness initiatives, campaigns, and events (e.g., wellness fairs, mental health workshops, fitness challenges) to promote a holistic culture of well-being
    • New Hire Benefit orientations: Schedule and perform new hire benefit orientations
    • Audit Support: Assist the Director of Benefits with annual audit support for two benefit plans
    • Broker Support & WGB: Assist the Director of Benefits with coordinating meetings and data discussions with our current Benefits Broker / Consultant and with the Working Group on Benefits
  • General HR Support (20%)
    • Peak-Period Back-up: Serve as the primary backup to the HR Specialist during high-volume hiring seasons
    • Background Screening: Initiate, track, and review background checks and clearances, ensuring strict compliance with college policies and federal/state regulations
    • Hiring Compliance: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and accuracy while handling sensitive candidate data
    • Perform special projects and related responsibilities as initiated/requested and provide cross-coverage for potential HR functions as needed
Line of Report

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Director of Talent Acquisition, Equity, and Belonging, with shared responsibilities overseen by the Director of Benefits Administration. The HRG does not have any direct reports.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, and 2 years of progressive HR experience,
  • OR 6 years of progressive HR experience
Professional Competencies

Specialized Knowledge: Proven experience designing and facilitating training or professional development modules

Familiarity with employee benefits programs and experience with financial billing/reconciliation

Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present confidently and effectively to diverse audiences

Strong analytical skills, and data aptitude and proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, Banner) and Excel

High level of emotional intelligence and discretion, and a proven ability to handle confidential information with care

Preferred Qualifications

HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR)

Experience with Workday HCM and Workday Learning

HR experience working in higher education or non-profit environments

Competency with employment benefits
