Job summary

Sigma Utility Solutions seeks a Project Manager to oversee telecommunications, SCADA, fiber optic, and RTU projects through their full life cycle. You will coordinate with engineers, area managers, technicians, and vendors to deliver on time and within budget.

Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, cost forecasting and risk tracking, with travel as needed. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and at least four years of related experience are required.

  • Minimum of four years of related professional experience.
  • Experience with project cost, schedule, scope controls, forecasting and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with technical applications and tools.
  • Office-based role with occasional travel.

  • Lead planning, design, execution, monitoring and closeout to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Develop scopes of work, RFPs, schedules, cost forecasts, progress reports and risk tracking.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and field resources on scope, schedule and changes.
  • Establish RTU replacement program schedules and site-specific projects.
  • Coordinate field execution, decommissioning, closeout, and as-built documentation.

Job description

Under direct supervision of Director of Project Delivery oversees telecommunications, SCADA, fiber optic, and RTU projects or phases of larger projects. Responsible for all aspects of the project over the entire project life cycle (initiate, plan, execute, control, close). Must be familiar with system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the team.

Responsibilities of this position include the following:
  • Manage capital telecommunications, SCADA, and RTU replacement projects or phases of larger projects in accordance with company project management processes, policies, and governance requirements.
  • Lead project planning, design, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities to deliver assigned work within approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Develop scopes of work, requests for proposals, project schedules, cost forecasts, progress reports, risk tracking, and change-control documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors regarding work scope, contract commitments, specifications, schedule requirements, and change management.
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized RTU replacement program schedule based on company-provided asset data, projected timelines, engineering readiness, field resource availability, and active capital project schedules.
  • Establish site-specific projects and work orders for RTU replacements, ensuring each project is properly scoped based on size, complexity, communications requirements, equipment needs, and field execution constraints.
  • Coordinate with telecom engineering, assigned engineers, area managers, communication technicians, relay and meter technicians, contractors, and vendors to align resources and support project execution.
  • Track RTU replacement work associated with ongoing capital projects to prevent duplication of work and ensure replacement activities are properly coordinated.
  • Ensure required equipment and materials are ordered, assembled, shipped, and tracked in alignment with project schedules and site readiness.
  • Coordinate field execution, legacy RTU decommissioning, equipment removal, as-built documentation, and project closeout in accordance with established procedures.
Requirements for this position include the following:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of four years directly related professional experience.
  • Experience or formal education in project cost, schedule, scope controls, forecasting and reporting
  • Ability to analyze information, form conclusions and provide meaningful solutions
  • Proficient with the use of technical applications, software, and tools
  • Ability to motivate and influence others including skills and experience in team building
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • In office 5 days a week.
  • Occasional travel
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following:
  • Seven years related professional experience.
  • Certified associate in project management Credential from Project Management Institute
  • Experience as an engineer or other technical project support
  • Understanding of environmental regulations, National Environmental Protection Act, environmental impact statement, environmental assessment, State Historical Preservation Office, Army Corp of Engineers, etc.
  • Working knowledge of SAP in cost tracking and forecasting
  • Working knowledge of Primavera scheduling or other project management software
  • Experience in electric utility design and/or construction
  • Knowledge of the company’s business, policies, procedures, and practices
