The Communications Officer/Dispatcher is responsible for the efficient and expeditious operation of functions pertaining to communications during a work shift. Duties include provision of law enforcement, fire, and medical emergency communications. The dispatcher will relay calls for service to the appropriate agency personnel who are assigned that shift.
The dispatcher is responsible for processing both emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering the correct information, pre and post arrival instructions to the caller, and ensuring the call is dispatched to appropriate responders or handled aptly.
As an NCIC entry operator, the dispatcher is responsible for making timely and accurate entries, queries and clearances into the NCIC/TCIC systems, as prescribed by standard procedures set by the FBI and TBI.
