Job summary

Louisiana State Police is seeking a Communications Officer 1/2/3 to join our communications center. The role involves receiving, documenting, and transmitting critical information to officers and the public, supporting safety and efficient operations.

The position requires NCIC/terminal operator certification within six months, and eligibility for shift work on a 12‑hour rotating schedule. Compensation will be determined by qualifications, with premium pay up to $2.00/hour.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services.
• Six months of training in a business or clerical curriculum in a business school or technical institute.
• Fifteen semester hours of college training.

Responsibilities

• Receive and respond to informational requests by officers/agents.
• Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries; alert officers, dispatch, and relay information.
• Search, enter, modify, and delete records for vehicle registrations, licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, etc. in the appropriate computer database.
• Maintain proper record keeping and update the event log during communications.

Our mission as Louisiana State Police Regional Communications Officers is to foster safety, efficiency, and unity by providing exceptional communication and support services to law enforcement agencies, communities, and the citizens of the State of Louisiana. Communication Officers are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and compassion in our work.

LSP is looking for a Communications Officer 1/2/3 to join our team and support our mission. A Communications Officer 1/2/3 is responsible for accurately receiving, documenting, and transmitting critical information and instructions. Communications Officers play a vital role in providing assistance to the public and officer safety when responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. The incumbent also utilizes law enforcement computer systems and databases and performs assigned duties within the Communications Center.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re‑certification requirement within six months of employment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties

• Receive and respond to informational requests by officers/agents.

• Search, enter, modify, and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons or bodies, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database.
• Maintain proper record keeping and update the event log during communications.
