Job summary

LSU Health Shreveport is seeking a part-time Communications Officer 1 or 2 to support the University Police Department. The role involves transmitting and receiving messages clearly by radio and phone, monitoring security systems, and guiding staff and visitors.

The ideal candidate has up to six months experience in communications or related clerical work and is committed to courtesy and excellence in a community policing environment. Flexible hours and weekend coverage may be required.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a part‑time (when actually employed -WAE) Communications Officer 1 or 2 to join our University Police Department. Communications Officers support both the University Police and Guards in delivering and transmitting information and instructions clearly and accurately. They also monitor the fire and security alarm systems and alert and direct officers to needed areas.

• Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR
• Six months of training in a business or clerical‑related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR
• Fifteen semester hours of college training.

Necessary special requirements

• All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re‑certification requirement within six months of employment.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Communications Officer 1 or 2.

Work Schedule: Part‑Time. Up to 30 hours per week. Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (Flexible) hours may change depending on needs of business. Occasional overtime may be required. Lunch and breaks are dictated by workflow.
