Job description

Journey to Lead (JOURNEY) is a nonprofit organization uniquely designed to advance extraordinary women to the top of the private sector. Each year, it selects a cohort of Fellows — accomplished startup CEOs and corporate executives committed to tackling the world’s toughest challenges— for intensive coaching by top women leaders. Operating 100% remotely, the JOURNEY team hosts four annual in-person events, monthly virtual workshops, and personalized 1:1 training sessions.

This is an exciting time to join JOURNEY as we grow our team to expand our programs and deepen impact. We’re seeking candidates who are deeply committed to our mission and energized by the opportunity to help shape our startup organization.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a nimble and multimedia-savvy Communications Manager to lead our organization’s digital presence and storytelling efforts. This role is ideal for someone with experience in high-stakes, fast-paced communications environments who’s looking to channel their skills into impactful work on a part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will…

  • Oversee and manage our website, ensuring content is timely, strategic, and aligned with brand voice
  • Lead social media strategy and execution across platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Draft and produce our email newsletters with compelling copy and a clean visual presentation
  • Develop and manage multimedia content—including short videos, graphics, and photos—to elevate our storytelling
  • Write and edit LinkedIn posts, announcements, press releases, and other public-facing communications
  • Collaborate with leadership to translate key milestones and events into high-impact communications
  • Track engagement metrics and adjust strategies to grow reach and impact
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

To be successful at JOURNEY, you have…

  • A strong personal commitment to JOURNEY’s mission
  • A strategic and agile mindset with the ability to take initiative and deliver results in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit that enables you to work effectively across remote teams and diverse stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you have…

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, media, or public affairs, preferably in high-stakes or high-profile environments
  • The ability to write copy, edit videos, and create digital content
  • Samples of writing and multimedia work that displays a strong sense for narrative, voice, and visual branding
  • The ability to own projects end-to-end and meet deadlines with limited oversight
  • Experience using graphic design and video editing software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, etc.)
  • Familiarity with email marketing, website, and social media management software (Mailchimp, Substack, WordPress, Hootsuite, or equivalent.)
  • Excellent knowledge of Google, MS SharePoint/Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Not sure if you meet every qualification? We encourage you to apply! We're looking for candidates who are passionate about our mission, aligned with our culture, and bring a unique background that can strengthen our team.

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, with the potential to turn full-time in the future. Though the candidate will work 100% remotely, they must be located in DC, VA, MD, WVONLY.

The compensation is $30-50/hour. Pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills and certifications.
