Job description

The WSHC Student Radio Station Manager provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for Shepherd University’s student radio station. Working closely with students, faculty, and the Communication program, the manager helps maintain an active, professional, and engaging student-run broadcast environment.
Please note: This is a grant-funded position. Renewal depends upon continued availability of funding, which is not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Broadcasting, Media Production, Journalism, or a related field; relevant professional experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in radio, audio production, broadcasting, podcasting, or related media.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast/audio equipment, digital audio systems, and basic studio operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with college students and provide guidance, training, and mentorship.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain reliable station operations.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that may occasionally include evenings or campus events.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duties

The position is responsible for coordinating station operations and programming; recruiting, training, and mentoring student DJs and station participants; maintaining consistent broadcast schedules and standards; and helping students develop skills in audio production, broadcasting, programming, and station management. The manager also assists with the effective use and care of studio equipment and works with university personnel to identify and address technical or operational needs. A key focus of the position is growing student participation and strengthening WSHC as a visible part of campus life. The manager will help develop new programming, encourage student leadership, promote the station across campus and digital platforms, and identify opportunities for collaboration with academic programs, student organizations, university events, and the surrounding community. The ideal candidate will have experience or demonstrated knowledge in radio, audio production, broadcasting, podcasting, or related media; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; and an enthusiasm for mentoring students and helping them build a vibrant, sustainable student media organization.
This is a part-time, grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding, and the position will conclude when grant funds supporting the appointment are exhausted.
