Job summary

JLL is seeking a Commissioning Project Engineer to provide reliable support to our Commissioning & Building Analytics (CBA) team across the USA. The role involves field activities, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring commissioning deliverables meet ASHRAE, CSA, and LEED standards.

The ideal candidate will have an engineering degree, at least 2 years in mechanical or electrical field-testing, strong data management, and proficient MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent; engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical testing meters and analyzing test results.
  • Minimum 2 years in mechanical/electrical engineering and/or field-testing.
  • Strong data management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office; able to coordinate multiple project schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning activities across design, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases.
  • Liaise with team members, consultants, and contractors to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Develop Commissioning Plans and Specifications and manage schedules.
  • Conduct site visits and witness Functional and Integrated Systems tests.
  • Review shop drawings and design drawings; manage submittals.

JLL is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the role of Commissioning Project Engineer to provide reliable, timely and efficient support to our Commissioning & Building Analytics (CBA) team. The position entails working with a diverse group of internal and external Stakeholders at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and have a team player attitude.

In particular, you will be responsible for carrying out the following duties specific to your position:

  • Have experience with all commissioning processes and deliverables covered in ASHRAE, CSA, and LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment/systems inspections, testing, and associated commissioning activities.
  • Monitor, review, and execute all facets of Commissioning related projects by providing exceptional technical and field activities. In addition, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong technical functions throughout the design, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases of projects.
  • Liaise with team members, outside consultants and contractors to assist in leading cross functional teams on various projects.
  • Understanding and capability of how to develop strong Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications.
  • Jointly manage commissioning projects, developing commissioning activity schedules and sequence-of-work.
  • Conduct comprehensive field-based commissioning activities, including site visits, the development and approval of start-up and test forms, as well as managing, directing, and witnessing the execution of Functional Test scripts and Integrated Systems Test scripts.
  • Perform Commissioning Design Drawing & Specification Reviews, as well as Submittal (shop drawing) reviews.
  • Chair Commissioning Meetings.
  • Have understanding of how to use calibrated testing equipment used in the commissioning process (flow hoods, anemometers, pitot tubes, IR cameras, Power Quality Meters, various meters, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in testing mechanical and HVAC&R systems, building management & automation systems, plumbing equipment and systems, lighting controls systems and normal/emergency power systems.
  • Develop, track, and resolve issues using an Issues Log.
  • Understanding of how to develop and execute seasonal/performance tests.
  • Ability to develop and compile project documentation into site/project specific Systems Manuals.
  • Ability to develop/review/evaluate training programs for installed equipment and systems.
  • The candidate will support, front to back, all the project documentation requirements.
  • The candidate will perform, front to back, all the field activity components.
Additional Expectations
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%-40% to client sites across the USA.
  • Assist the team in meeting the demanding workload.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting & root-cause analysis skills.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • A recognized university technical degree or equivalent. Engineering Degree is preferred.
  • Experience in the use of mechanical testing meters, ability to analyze and review reports on test results including portable temperature and humidity data loggers, air flow meters, test and balance, etc.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant mechanical or electrical engineering and/or field-testing.
  • Strong data management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple project schedules concurrently.
Desired:
  • Professional Engineer/PE or PMP designation is considered an asset.
  • Any combination of Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Certified Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP), Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), or Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) designations is considered an asset.
  • LEED AP certification is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally when needed.
  • Ability to use electrical testing meters and equipment and analyze and report on test results including Power Quality Meters (PQM), thermography, NETA tests, ground tests, hi-pot, megger, etc. is an asset.

Estimated compensation for this position:

120,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
