Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for large-scale hyperscale data center construction projects in Phoenix, AZ. The role requires coordinating multidisciplinary teams and driving IST, design review through startup and client turnover.

You will oversee L2-L5 commissioning, develop plans and test scripts, ensure safety and quality, and report progress to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in commissioning, construction, operations, startup, or related industries.
  • Minimum 5+ years in a Commissioning Manager or Senior Commissioning Leader role.
  • Experience leading L2-L5 commissioning on large-scale projects.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data centers and utility infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and test scripts.

  • Review drawings, specs, submittals, and turnover documentation.
  • Manage commissioning teams including Commissioning Managers, Engineers, and field technicians.
  • Monitor progress, mitigate delays, and report to leadership and clients.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for large-scale hyperscale data center construction projects. This individual will be responsible for managing and overseeing all phases of the commissioning process from design review through startup, integrated systems testing, and client turnover. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience delivering mission-critical infrastructure, with a strong background in L2-L5 commissioning, and previous involvement in large-scale energy, industrial, power generation, or utility projects.

This position requires a proven leader capable of coordinating multidisciplinary teams, driving schedule performance, mitigating risk, and ensuring operational readiness of complex electrical and mechanical systems.

***Current position in Phoenix, Arizona. Second position will be opening in Atlanta, Georgia in October***

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all commissioning activities across hyperscale data center projects from pre-construction through final handover.
  • Oversee and manage the execution of Level 2 through Level 5 (L2-L5) commissioning processes.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and test scripts.
  • Coordinate commissioning efforts among owners, contractors, equipment vendors, engineering firms, and commissioning agents.
  • Ensure systems are installed, tested, and operational in accordance with project specifications, design intent, and client requirements.
  • Lead Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and validate interoperability of critical infrastructure systems.
  • Manage commissioning teams, including Commissioning Managers, Commissioning Engineers, and field technicians.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, and turnover documentation.
  • Drive quality assurance and quality control initiatives throughout project execution.
  • Monitor commissioning progress against project schedules and actively mitigate delays or risks.
  • Facilitate commissioning meetings and provide regular reporting to project leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Support startup, energization, reliability testing, and operational readiness activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, commissioning protocols, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related discipline) preferred.
  • Military veterans with a U.S. Navy Nuclear, Power Generation, Electrical, Mechanical, or Submarine background are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in commissioning, construction, operations, startup, power generation, energy, mission-critical facilities, or related industries.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience serving as a Commissioning Manager or Senior Commissioning Leader.
  • Demonstrated experience managing L2-L5 commissioning activities on large-scale projects.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, utility infrastructure, power generation, renewable energy, oil & gas, LNG, transmission/distribution, semiconductor, or other large industrial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning methodologies, planning, turnover processes, startup sequencing, and Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

  • PMP, PE, CCP, CxA, PMP, or similar industry certifications.
  • Experience utilizing commissioning management platforms and turnover databases.
