Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead L2-L5 commissioning for hyperscale data center projects. The role requires directing engineers, vendors, and cross-disciplinary teams to ensure on-time completion of commissioning activities.

You will manage schedules, maintain safety and quality standards, and support client turnover with thorough documentation. Domestic travel to Cheyenne and Phoenix is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of commissioning experience in mission critical environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• Experience leading hyperscale or large-scale data center commissioning programs.
• Strong ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments.
• Proficient in IST activities and data center electrical/mechanical systems.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead and execute Level 2 through Level 5 (L2-L5) commissioning activities for a large-scale hyperscale data center construction program. This individual will be responsible for managing the commissioning process from equipment installation verification through integrated systems testing and client turnover.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in mission critical infrastructure, extensive experience commissioning data center MEP systems, and proven leadership capabilities managing multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced construction environments. Current site needs are in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Phoenix, Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and management of L2-L5 commissioning activities for hyperscale data center projects.
• Develop and manage commissioning schedules aligned with overall project milestones.
• Direct commissioning engineers, specialists, and vendor representatives during commissioning activities.
• Ensure all commissioning tasks are completed in accordance with project procedures, quality expectations, and safety requirements.

Quality & Documentation

• Ensure commissioning documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained throughout project execution.
• Track deficiencies, punch list items, and corrective actions through closure.
• Review commissioning reports, test records, trend logs, and turnover packages.
• Support development of operations and maintenance documentation for client handover.

Safety

• Promote a strong safety culture throughout commissioning activities.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work planning for energization and startup activities.
• Verify adherence to project-specific safety requirements and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field preferred.
• Minimum 8+ years of commissioning experience in mission critical environments.
• Minimum 3+ years in a Commissioning Manager or leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center construction projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems including:
• Medium Voltage/High Voltage systems
• Generators
• UPS systems
• Switchgear
• PDUs
• CRAH/CRAC units
• Cooling towers
• Building Automation Systems (BAS)
• EPMS/SCADA systems
• Fire Life Safety systems
• Experience leading Integrated Systems Testing (IST) activities.
• Ability to read and interpret design drawings, one-lines, controls documentation, and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working directly with hyperscale clients (Meta, Google, Microsoft, AWS, Oracle, etc.).
• Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), CxA, ACG Commissioning Authority, or equivalent certification.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• NFPA 70E training.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE commissioning standards and Uptime Institute methodologies.
• Experience using Procore, BIM 360, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar project management platforms.
