Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a Commissioning Engineer III for a contract opportunity focused on coordinating design and commissioning activities for nuclear facilities. The role requires leading multi-disciplinary teams and developing schedules and procedures to meet regulatory standards.

You will support plant operations across lifecycle, apply engineering principles to complex nuclear systems, and ensure testing aligns with design criteria. Travel is 0-5%; export controls require U.S.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or other relevant engineering.
  • 7+ years direct nuclear power plant experience commissioning safety-related systems.
  • 5+ years direct commercial nuclear reactor operating experience; Senior Reactor Operator qualification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with nuclear plant commissioning administrative processes and procedures.
  • Experience with integrated plant design of nuclear systems and complex structures desired.
  • Experience with quality standards such as NQA-1 or ISO 9001.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate geographically diverse design and commissioning team members to develop design and testing documentation.
  • Develop and implement commissioning administrative programs and procedures.
  • Coordinate integrated nuclear plant commissioning schedule across multiple organizations.
  • Provide SME guidance on regulations, policies, and best practices for nuclear plant commissioning.
  • Support development and maintenance of plant and system level requirements and strategy documents.
  • Apply engineering principles to the design of nuclear and industrial facilities and systems.
  • Lead commissioning and design efforts to evaluate plant control and transient responses and deliver optimized operation strategies.
  • Support project teams through oversight and interface activities for plant development.
  • Promote continuous learning of nuclear industry best practices and identify process improvements.
  • Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
  • Provide leadership for nuclear island commissioning programs, processes, and procedures to ensure testing meets design criteria.

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Commissioning Engineer III opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for coordinating geographically diverse design and commissioning team members to develop supporting design and testing documentation. The team is composed of Company employees, subcontracted resources, partner employees, and customers.
  • Develop and implement commissioning administrative programs and procedures.
  • Develop and coordinate the creation of an integrated nuclear plant commissioning schedule across multiple organizations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the project team regarding regulations, company policies, and industry best practices related to nuclear plant commissioning.
  • Support the develop, maintenance, and refinement of plant level and system level requirements, specifications, and strategy documents related to commissioning, plant operations and maintenance activities over the lifecycle of a nuclear facility
  • Apply Engineering principles, methods, and tools to the design of nuclear and industrial facilities and its systems and operations.
  • Develop and lead commissioning and design efforts to evaluate plant integrated control and transient event responses and provide recommendations/optimizations to deliver efficient plant operational strategies to influence design.
  • Support teammates and contractors in the plant development efforts through oversight and interface activities.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
  • Support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of nuclear island commissioning programs, processes, and procedures to ensure testing meets design criteria.
Job Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or other relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years direct nuclear power plant experience commissioning safety-related (or equivalent) systems and components.
  • 5+ years direct experience in commercial nuclear reactor operating experience, including Senior Reactor Operator qualification or equivalent; Shift Technical Advisor qualification preferred.
  • Experience in developing and/or using nuclear plant commissioning administrative processes and procedures.
  • Experience in implementing integrated plant design of nuclear systems, including complex systems and structures highly desired but not required.
  • Experience developing and/or approving nuclear plant operations and maintenance procedures is preferred.
  • Experience using P6 Primavera or a similar application to develop long-term schedules is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the implementing requirements for and licensing basis criteria for nuclear work control, maintenance strategies, and operational programs.
  • Deep understanding of the nuclear regulations, plant work control processes, operational design philosophies, and integrated plant operations during normal and off normal events.
  • Deep understanding of configuration management principles, as well as knowledge of design control tools application on nuclear or similar complex industrial applications.
  • Knowledge of Risk Informed methodologies for integrated plant design or similar probabilistic methods in design, desired but not required.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills, including periodic training development and presentation.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Candidate must be a high potential, self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and support a design team’s effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Experience working to quality standards NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
