Job summary

  • 4–8 years of progressive engineering/project coordination experience in nuclear or heavy industrial settings.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, planning, procurement, and construction interfaces.
  • Ability to work within formal project procedures, quality programs, and disciplined documentation.

Job description

The Nuclear Island Project Engineer II - SMR-300 (or Project Engineer II) supports engineering delivery for the SMR-300 Project. This technical lead role is responsible for coordinating assigned engineering work scopes, developing complete and executable work packages, supporting project cost and schedule control, managing technical interfaces, and helping ensure timely delivery of engineering and procurement support needed to advance the project from scope definition through design, procurement, construction support, and turnover.

The Project Engineer II will work closely with project managers, discipline engineering teams, planning, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, and client stakeholders to translate project objectives into actionable engineering deliverables, resolve technical queries, support bid evaluations, monitor progress, identify risks and changes, and provide clear reporting on assigned scopes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate assigned engineering scopes, manage technical interfaces, supports procurement and field execution, and reports performance against approved scope, cost, schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
  • Develop and coordinate assigned engineering work packages, including scope, deliverables, estimates, WBS inputs, schedule inputs, and kickoff materials.
  • Manage technical interfaces among engineering, project management, planning, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, vendors, and client stakeholders.
  • Monitor assigned scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, procurement, and delivery performance; identify issues, risks, and required decisions.
  • Coordinate resolution of technical queries, field clarifications, drawing holds, work-pack issues, constructability concerns, and construction readiness items.
  • Support technical bid evaluations, procurement reviews, supplier coordination, and preparation of technical evaluation reports.
  • Work with project managers and planning engineers to develop, maintain, and recover baseline schedules for assigned scopes.
  • Prepare dashboards, status reports, action trackers, risk registers, change logs, and performance updates for assigned work orders or project areas.
  • Participate in safety, design, constructability, procurement, readiness, and project execution reviews.
  • Document scope impacts, variations, and potential changes for review and approval through established change control processes.
  • Maintain compliance with project procedures, configuration control, quality expectations, and proactive safety practices.
  • Support periodic travel as required, typically 10–20%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution; Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or related discipline required.
  • 4-8 years of progressive engineering, project engineering, project delivery, or technical coordination experience in nuclear, power generation, EPC, heavy industrial, or similarly complex technical programs.
  • Experience supporting engineering scopes from definition through design, procurement support, construction support, and turnover.
  • Working knowledge of project controls, cost and schedule management, WBS, estimating, change control, risk management, and performance reporting.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, planning, procurement, construction, vendor, and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Experience supporting technical queries, bid evaluations, design reviews, constructability reviews, interface issues, and site engineering activities.
  • Ability to work within formal project procedures, quality programs, configuration control, and disciplined documentation practices.
  • Strong communication and technical coordination skills, including clear reporting of status, risks, changes, and required decisions.
  • U.S. citizenship or general authorization to work under 10 CFR 810.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent project delivery credential.
  • Experience with commercial nuclear plant design, advanced reactor development, SMRs, plant modifications, or major capital projects in regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with U.S. NRC regulatory requirements, quality assurance programs, design control, procurement engineering, and configuration management.
  • Experience using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar project controls tools to support baseline schedule development, progress tracking, and recovery planning.
  • Experience supporting technical bid evaluations, supplier oversight, fabrication readiness, field engineering, work-pack development, and construction readiness.
  • Experience preparing or supporting project dashboards, work order proposals, risk registers, action trackers, change notices, and client-facing project reports.
  • Prior experience supporting startup, commissioning, turnover, operations readiness, or asset integration.
