Job summary

Mitsubishi Power Americas is seeking a Commissioning Tuning Engineer to apply advanced controls engineering to the startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of Mitsubishi gas turbines. You will diagnose issues, optimize turbine performance, and ensure safe operation while supporting commissioning activities with combustion tuning, VB tuning programs, and CASS.

This role requires travel up to 70% and a strong background in turbine controls and combustion dynamics,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience or 5+ years of related experience/training.
• Strong knowledge of combustion tuning processes and theory to support gas turbine commissioning and tuning.
• Strong analytical and technical interpretation skills; ability to read and understand engineering documents.
• Effective written and verbal communication for internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.
• Proficiency with standard software including databases, project management tools, spreadsheets, and word-processing applications.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership.
• Support gas turbine commissioning and startup, including operational verification, controls troubleshooting, and system readiness activities.
• Independently perform combustion tuning on Mitsubishi J-Class gas turbines, including load overshoot mitigation and ignition tuning.
• Apply combustion dynamics expertise to diagnose and resolve instabilities and pressure fluctuations.
• Utilize combustion tuning and diagnostic tools, including VB tuning programs and CASS, for data acquisition, analysis, and tuning adjustments.
• Verify gas turbine control system functionality, including slot assignments, signal outputs, transmitters, failsafe logic, and control loops.
• Develop, implement, and troubleshoot DCS logic to support commissioning, controls operation, and combustion tuning activities.
• Perform instrument loop checks, calculate operational setpoints, and validate control logic against specifications.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions during startup and commissioning.
• Prepare accurate technical reports documenting site conditions, actions taken, tuning results, and recommendations.
• Complete required internal and customer-facing documentation associated with commissioning and combustion tuning.
