Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between BCM faculty, researchers, clinicians, and external partners to support technology commercialization activities.
  • Evaluate invention disclosures and conduct market, competitive, and commercial assessments for technologies in diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, software, and artificial intelligence.
  • Coordinate patent-related activities with legal counsel, monitor intellectual property deadlines, maintain portfolio records, and support licensing transactions.
  • Monitor licensee obligations, royalty reporting, invoicing, and contractual milestones.
  • Develop technology marketing materials, identify prospective licensees and industry partners, and support outreach efforts to advance commercialization opportunities for BCM innovations.
  • Develop commercialization plans and market-entry strategies for emerging technologies.
  • Stay informed on trends and best practices in technology transfer, intellectual property, and healthcare innovation.
  • Participate in BCMII initiatives, special projects, and cross-functional activities that advance the commercialization of BCM technologies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $79,092 - $93,049
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Commercialization and Technology Management Associate supports the evaluation, protection, marketing, and commercialization of intellectual property generated through Baylor College of Medicine’s research and clinical activities. The role works closely with faculty, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to help translate innovations into products and services that improve patient care and human health. Primary responsibilities focus on technologies related to diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, software, and artificial intelligence, supporting invention assessment, licensing, and technology transfer activities throughout the commercialization lifecycle. This hybrid Houston-based position offers broad exposure to biomedical innovation and opportunities for professional growth in technology commercialization and intellectual property management.

Job Duties
Relationship Management
  • Serve as a liaison between BCM faculty, researchers, clinicians, and external partners to support technology commercialization activities.
  • Provide guidance on intellectual property, licensing, and commercialization processes, and facilitate communication throughout the innovation lifecycle.
Technology Evaluation & Commercialization
  • Evaluate invention disclosures and conduct market, competitive, and commercial assessments for technologies in diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, software, and artificial intelligence.
  • Develop recommendations regarding patent protection, licensing, startup formation, and commercialization strategies.
Intellectual Property & Licensing Administration
  • Coordinate patent-related activities with legal counsel, monitor intellectual property deadlines, maintain portfolio records, and support licensing transactions.
  • Assist with the preparation, negotiation, and administration of technology transfer agreements and related documentation.
Portfolio Management & Compliance
  • Monitor licensee obligations, royalty reporting, invoicing, and contractual milestones.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare portfolio reports and metrics, and coordinate with finance, compliance, investigators, and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to contractual and regulatory requirements.
Business Development & Marketing
  • Develop technology marketing materials, identify prospective licensees and industry partners, and support outreach efforts to advance commercialization opportunities for BCM innovations.
  • Assist in developing commercialization plans and market-entry strategies for emerging technologies.
Professional Development & Team Support
  • Stay informed on trends and best practices in technology transfer, intellectual property, and healthcare innovation.
  • Participate in BCMII initiatives, special projects, and cross-functional activities that advance the commercialization of BCM technologies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific, engineering, technical, or business field with experience in healthcare technologies, technology commercialization, intellectual property, business development, or innovation management.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, M.S., Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience evaluating technical innovations and supporting patenting, licensing, or commercialization activities in academia, industry, startups, consulting, or technology transfer environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and a customer-focused approach.
