Job summary

Job description

The UTHealth Houston Office of Technology Management is dedicated to advancing innovation through technology commercialization, licensing, and intellectual property management across the university.

The position will identify, evaluate, and commercialize technologies developed by faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Assist inventors with development of invention disclosures and evaluate new inventions for product and market potential.

Candidates should have experience in technology transfer, especially with regards to software licensing and AI implementation in medical projects.

Position Summary

Identifies, evaluates, and commercializes the technologies developed at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist inventors with the development of invention discloses.
  • Evaluate new inventions for product and market potential.
  • Research scientific, patent, and commercial publications and attend scientific seminars.
  • Assist in licensing strategies and conduct negotiations with potential licensees.
  • Meet with inventors to identify product/market potential of inventions and identify potential licenses.
  • Administer complex active licenses and related research agreements.
  • Maintain appropriate company and marketing database.
  • Maintain license compliance.
  • May lead projects and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education
  • Technology Commercialization Specialist: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Chemistry, Biology, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Senior Technology Commercialization Specialist: Doctorate Degree in one of the Life Sciences or Law required.
Minimum Experience
  • Technology Commercialization Specialist: 2 years of applicable experience required; may substitute with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
  • Senior Technology Commercialization Specialist: 4 years of related experience in commercializing technology in industry or university technology transfer required.
Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
