Job summary

Baylor College of Medicine in Houston seeks a Senior Communications Associate to develop and execute visibility-building content. You will write, edit and tell stories across blogs, newsletters, websites, publications and social media, translating complex medical topics into engaging messages that reflect BCM’s brand and goals.

After an initial training period, you may work one day per week from home within the Greater Houston area, with occasional after-hours work as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; four years of relevant experience may substitute.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Degree in Journalism and / or Broadcasting, Communications, Public Relations, Communications Studies, English.
  • Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP Style.
  • Experience with social media platforms, Canva, Photoshop and CMS (Unily / Druple).
  • Strong interviewing skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, a good people person.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a writer and editor in the Office of Communications and Community Outreach.
  • Identifies, develops and writes compelling stories that highlight Baylor College of Medicine’s achievements, innovation, research, education, patient care and community engagement.
  • Creates strategic, audience-centered content for print, digital, web and social media platforms.
  • Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, trainees, employees and institutional leaders to develop impactful stories and communications.
  • Works with colleagues in the Office of Communications and Community Outreach and throughout the College to develop communications strategies that support institutional priorities and engagement goals.
  • Provides comprehensive editing, proofreading and quality control to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency and adherence to brand standards, with a strong background in AP Style.
  • Translates academic medicine and healthcare topics into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Advises leaders and stakeholders on messaging, tone, content development and communications best practices.
  • Measures content performance and audience engagement and recommends strategies to improve reach and effectiveness.
  • Attends and covers meetings and events for various internal and external communications.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Title: Senior Communications Associate

Division: Office of Communications and Community Outreach

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Location: Houston, TX

Salary Range: $79,092 - $85,000

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Develops, contributes to and executes communications initiatives that elevate the visibility and reputation of Baylor College of Medicine. Serves as a writer, editor and storyteller responsible for creating clear, compelling and audience-focused content across multiple channels, including blogs, newsletters, websites, publications, presentations and social media. Collaborates with colleagues and institutional leaders to identify storytelling opportunities, translate complex topics into engaging narratives, and ensure consistent messaging that reflects Baylor College of Medicine’s brand, values and objectives.

After an initial training period, the associate will have the opportunity to work one day per week from home within the Greater Houston area. Occasional after-hours work may be required.

Candidates will be asked to provide writing samples as part of the interview process.
