Job summary

Acadia Insurance, a Berkley company in Maine, seeks an Underwriter for the Advantage small business team. You will underwrite and price new and renewal accounts, manage agency relationships, and monitor performance across assigned territories, with travel as needed.

The role requires a BA/BS and 2–5 years of underwriting experience, strong communication, and analytical skills. A base salary ranges from $75,000 to $95,000 with an eligible discretionary bonus; comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with 1–2 years related experience or equivalent
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
• Excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to collaborate, influence others and meet targets
• Analytical thinking to assess business problems and propose solutions
• High energy self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit
• Ability to travel within assigned territory
• Valid driver’s license required
• Experience with on-line underwriting tools preferred (e.g., Silver Plume)
• CPCU or AU or other insurance coursework preferred

Responsibilities

• Manage underwriting tasks for assigned territory to promote premium growth and favorable loss ratios
• Underwrite and price new and renewal accounts within authority, refer to management as needed
• Develop and manage agency relationships through visits and regular contact
• Evaluate agency performance and communicate goals and guidelines
• Monitor production metrics and quality measures
• Coordinate loss control, claims, audits and billing services as needed
• Bind reinsurance and review reinsurer certificates
• Maintain workflow aligning with department standards and improve processes
• Demonstrate commitment to self-development
• Other duties as assigned
