Role Description The Commercial Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in Richmond, VA, responsible for overseeing daily field operations on commercial construction projects. This role coordinates and supervises subcontractors, vendors, and on-site personnel to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in line with project specifications and quality standards. The Superintendent manages site logistics, conducts regular inspections, resolves field issues, and maintains accurate documentation, including daily reports and progress updates. The role collaborates closely with project managers, owners, and design teams, supports scheduling and phasing, and enforces safety policies and building code compliance. The Superintendent also plays a key role in communicating with stakeholders, participating in site meetings, and supporting successful project closeout.

Qualifications

• Field construction management skills, including supervising subcontractors, coordinating trades, and managing daily site operations.
• Project planning and scheduling capabilities, including reading plans, sequencing work, and tracking milestones and deadlines.
• Knowledge of commercial construction practices, building codes, safety regulations, and quality control standards.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors.
• Ability to maintain detailed documentation such as daily reports, site logs, RFIs, change tracking, and punch lists.
• Proficiency with construction management software, digital plans, email, and basic office applications.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make timely decisions in the field.
• Prior experience as a superintendent or in a similar commercial construction leadership role; experience in the Richmond, VA market is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field is beneficial.
