Job summary

Mattel is seeking a Safety & Regulatory Commercial Compliance Quality Engineer intern to join our Regulations and Compliance team in El Segundo. You will research international safety, regulatory and retailer requirements for children’s products and help apply them to internal procedures.

This paid internship offers the chance to work with legal, product development and QE teams, access training, maintain documentation, and contribute to a robust compliance program while you develop engineering

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Mechatronics) or related field.
• Interest in regulations and safety for consumer/children's products.
• Analytical and strategic thinker.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and product data.
• Excellent communication, verbal and written skills.

Responsibilities

• Research international safety, regulatory, and retailer requirements for children's products.
• Interpret retailer and licensor requirements to internal procedures for product development.
• Ensure requirements are timely, clear, and communicated to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with domestic and international product safety laws.
• Provide guidance and training to internal labs, QE’s, and cross-functional teams on procedures and regulations.
• Maintain internal documentation, databases, and SharePoint content related to commercial compliance.
• Apply engineering knowledge to evaluate product design and samples for hazard analysis.
• Gather and organize information related to regulatory obligations (e.g., recalls) and prepare supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance the compliance management framework.
• Engage with standard organizations (ASTM, ISO, Toy Association) to support regulatory development.
