Summary

The Commercial Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial success of our utility-scale solar and BESS projects. They will directly engage with one or two projects at a time. The ideal candidate will be passionate about renewable energy, possess strong communication and influential skills, and have a proven track record in project management, construction cost control, negotiation, risk management, and contract management.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Commercial Management, or another senior management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position can be remote with a preference for candidates on PST or MT time zones or based in the Ankeny, IA or Teaneck, NJ offices. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm. This position may be required to travel up to 50% of the time.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  • Lead commercial activities for assigned projects, including financial and contractual aspects.
  • Collaborate with project directors, managers, and construction leaders to meet project objectives within constraints.
  • Negotiate subcontract terms, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Assess project risks and opportunities, developing mitigation and capitalization strategies.
  • Manage change orders, ensuring proper documentation and implementation.
  • Ensure adherence to contractual obligations and company policies.
  • Evaluate project performance, resolve contractual disputes promptly.
  • Prepare monthly executive reports including variance analysis, risk logs, forecasts, and change logs.
  • Reconcile resource spend and trends weekly.
  • Participate in weekly project performance reviews, providing feedback and recommendations.
  • Manage project budgets, including cost tracking and forecasting.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to align expectations and manage invoicing, cash flows, and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting standards and project management practices.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Senior Management.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant tools.
  • Insight into risk factors and advising EPC cost estimates.
  • Ability to interact cross-culturally with leadership and teams.
  • Action-oriented with a desire to improve and push limits.
  • Professional conduct and high degree of professionalism.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.
