Summary

The Commercial Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial success of our utility-scale solar and BESS projects. They will directly engage with one or two projects at a time. The ideal candidate will be passionate about renewable energy, possess strong communication and influential skills, and have a proven track record in project management, construction cost control, negotiation, risk management, and contract management.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Commercial Management or another senior management personnel designated by the CEO. It can be remote with a preference for candidates on PST or MT time zones or based in the offices of Ankeny, IA or Teaneck, NJ. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm. The role may require travel up to 50% of the time.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  1. Lead commercial activities for assigned projects, including financial and contractual aspects.
  2. Collaborate with project directors, managers, and construction leaders to meet project objectives within constraints.
  3. Negotiate subcontract terms, ensuring favorable and compliant agreements.
  4. Assess project risks and opportunities, developing mitigation and capitalization strategies.
  5. Manage change orders, ensuring proper documentation and implementation.
  6. Develop strategies to ensure contractual and policy compliance across projects.
  7. Evaluate project performance, resolve disputes, and minimize delays and cost overruns.
  8. Prepare monthly reports, including variance analysis, risk logs, forecasts, and change logs.
  9. Reconcile resource spend weekly and analyze trends.
  10. Participate in weekly project reviews, providing feedback and recommendations.
  11. Maintain project cost control plans and procedures.
  12. Assist in schedule development and review, including critical path management.
  13. Manage project budgets, costs, and forecasts.
  14. Engage with clients and stakeholders for expectation alignment, invoicing, cash flow, and change management.
  15. Ensure compliance with reporting standards and project management practices.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned by Senior Management.
Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years related experience.
  2. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  3. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant tools.
  5. Insight into risk factors and EPC cost estimates.
  6. Ability to interact cross-culturally with leadership.
  7. Action-oriented with a desire for continuous improvement.
  8. Professional conduct and teamwork skills.
  9. Willingness to travel up to 50%.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Stationary position, frequent sitting, occasional movement, light to heavy lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequent communication, good vision, occasional climbing, travel up to 50%.
  • Work in office or on construction sites with varying noise levels.
