Overview
Candidates must be based in Virginia or North Carolina and no relocation assistance is available.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to commercial clients by maintaining proactive communication and fostering strong relationships through phone, email, and in-person meetings.
- Guide clients in understanding policy terms and coverage, recommending enhancements or modifications based on evolving business needs.
- Secure completed and signed applications in line with internal and carrier-specific requirements.
- Provide timely responses to inquiries regarding coverage, billing, and account changes, ensuring exceptional customer service.
- Handle the issuance of certificates of insurance, evidence of property, cancellations, reinstatements, and related documentation in compliance with established processes.
- Process client-driven policy amendments and manage additions or removals of coverage as requested.
- Identify opportunities for additional coverage or services and coordinate with Sales or Account Executives to support cross-selling efforts.
- Request and track policy corrections or endorsements from carriers as necessary.
- Partner with the Sales Executive on renewals, reviewing expiring policies, collecting updated information, and facilitating timely policy renewal.
- Collaborate with Sales Executives to mitigate account cancellations and improve client retention.
- Maintain complete and organized client records in the agency management system, ensuring all transactions and communications are documented per company procedures.
- Support new and renewal business by preparing applications, proposals, binders, ID cards, and other essential documentation.
- Stay current on carrier offerings, rates, and policy changes through ongoing review of bulletins, online portals, and training resources.
- Participate in ongoing education and professional development programs to maintain required licensing and reduce risk of errors and omissions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.
Skills & Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in an insurance agency or similar environment.
- Solid understanding of commercial insurance coverage, underwriting principles, and risk evaluation.
- Ability to recognize coverage deficiencies, make recommendations, and promote additional insurance solutions when appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, stay organized, and communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
- Strong customer service and relationship management abilities, with a commitment to teamwork and problem resolution.
- Dedication to continuous learning and expanding knowledge in commercial insurance and risk management.
- Skilled in managing client interactions professionally and resolving conflicts constructively.
- Accurate data entry skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working within an agency management system preferred.
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Active Property & Casualty license required, or ability to attain within 90 days.
- Pursuing or holding professional designations such as CIC, AAI, CISR, or ACSR (or equivalent knowledge) strongly preferred.
