Job summary

Northern Bank in Massachusetts is seeking a Portfolio Manager to oversee credit risk and management of commercial lending relationships. You will independently analyze borrower performance, credit structure, and compliance to support risk-aware credit decisions.

You will produce executive-level updates, monitor delinquencies and renewals, and collaborate with Lending, Risk, Legal, and Finance to drive proactive risk mitigation using modern analytics and AI-enabled tools.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years experience in commercial underwriting, credit risk, or portfolio management.
Strong analytical skills and independent judgment.
Proficient in Microsoft 365 with strong Excel and Word; able to summarize complex credit data.
Familiarity with AI-enabled tools for financial analysis and reporting.
Excellent written and verbal communication to present to senior management.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Underwrite and review commercial lending relationships of medium-to-high complexity.
Analyze borrower statements, cash flow, collateral, guarantors, and covenants.
Validate risk ratings and identify migrations and early warnings.
Monitor portfolio delinquencies, renewals, and covenant exceptions.
Ensure documentation and file management for credits.
Provide executive-level reporting on portfolio risk and trends.
Collaborate with Lending, Risk, Legal, Finance, and Operations to mitigate risk.
