Job summary

Southwest Shipyard, LP in Houston, TX is seeking a Combo Welder and Fitter to read blueprints, fit components to precise measurements, and weld them to ensure structural integrity. Responsibilities include cutting, fitting, welding metal parts, maintaining high quality standards, and coordinating with the Foreman/Supervisor.

Bi-lingual English/Spanish proficiency and a TWIC card are preferred. Shifts Run Day 6:00am–3:30pm and Night 3:30pm–12:00am with potential OT; on-site at Brady Island,

Qualifications

• Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
• Minimum one year experience as a combo (shipyard experience preferred, but not required).
• Able to perform simple paperwork for forms and logs.
• Good judgment and initiative; take directions from supervisor.
• Understand Quality, Environmental & Safety manuals and procedures.
• Bi-lingual English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural fitter assignments: lay out, position, align, and fit fabricated structural steel plates per specs.
• Maintain a safe working environment; attend safety meetings as required.
• Move and align parts with hoists/cranes; cutoff bevels; direct welders as needed.
• Weld and grind barge/boat repair areas; ensure proper prep and full penetration welds.
• Operate welding/grinding equipment; pass welding test.
• Communicate with Foreman/Supervisor per quality manuals.
