Job summary

Sawdey Solution Services in Virginia Beach is seeking a diesel engine and systems maintenance mechanic to support Combatant Craft equipment and related propulsion, hydraulic, and electrical subsystems. The role emphasizes diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance across MTU engines and associated gear and propulsion components.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience, the ability to read blueprints, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in diesel/gasoline engines, chassis, and lubricating systems.
• Blueprints/schematics reading.
• Basic SMAW welding and sheet metal fabrication knowledge.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair to diesel engines, propulsion, and related systems.
• Assist Government with CCM maintenance and safety procedures.
• Diagnose failures, repair and adjust ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and steering systems.
• Perform repairs in shipyard and workshop environments as required.
• Coordinate with Maintenance Department/COC on CCM procedures.

Job description

The annual base salary range for this position $75,000 - 85,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. About the Role:

Combatant Craft Assault (CCA), Combatant Craft Mediums (CCM), Combatant Craft Heavy (CCH) maintenance/mechanic support; diesel engine, electrical, hydraulic, and craft systems maintenance and troubleshooting.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

• Provide diagnostics support, troubleshooting support, and repair to the following equipment: Diesel engines (Motoren-und Turbinen-Union (MTU) Preferred), reduction gears, auxiliaries, propulsion systems, including their sub-assemblies, such as engine electronic/electrical systems, fuel systems, lubrication systems, starting systems, steering systems, electrical distribution system, bilge dewatering systems, cooling systems, fire suppression, and hydraulic systems for the CCM, prime mover, trailer and associated equipment.
• Assist and provide technical recommendations to the Government regarding CCM maintenance and repair. Focus shall be on providing technical assessments and recommendations to the Preventative Maintenance System of the craft.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines, adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and steering systems.
• Be capable of performing repairs in both a shipyard and workshop environment as required.
• Coordinate with Troop or Maintenance Department Chain of Command (COC) on all matters concerning CCM safe engineering and operating procedures.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years' experience maintaining and repairing diesel engines, gasoline engines, chassis, and lubricating systems.
• Blueprint and schematics reading.
• Basic understanding of Sheet Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas
• Basic knowledge of sheet metal fabrication.
• Basic understanding of fiber glass and hull repair.
• Shall have a working knowledge of military publications, technical instructions, and engineering/ electrical illustrations relating to repair procedures and operations.

Other Required Skills & Abilities:

• Must be able to effectively communicate with customer and fulfill all duties and responsibilities as listed in the contract.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
