Job summary

BETA Systems International (BSI) is seeking qualified ASL interpreters to provide communication access services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey. Interpreters support courses, labs, and college activities both in person and via remote interpretation when needed.

Assignments are on an as-needed basis, with a two-hour minimum billable period and ongoing collaboration with college schedules.

Qualifications

• Fluency in ASL and English required.
• NIC RID certification required for deployment.
• Experience interpreting in college settings preferred.
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
• On-site availability in Toms River, NJ; remote work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate ASL interpretation between Deaf/HOH students and hearing faculty and staff.
• Interpret lectures, labs, meetings and other academic activities.
• Convey spoken English into ASL and signed communication into spoken English.
• Prepare for assignments by reviewing course materials.
• Maintain meaning, tone, and context of communications.
• Coordinate with scheduling and coverage needs for assignments.
• Provide remote interpretation when assigned and maintain necessary equipment.
