Job summary

Greenberg Traurig is seeking a Collections Specialist in Chicago on a hybrid schedule. You will manage daily collection activities, coordinate with Billing Attorneys, and drive timely recoveries while maintaining client relationships.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of collections experience, familiarity with Aderant and Ebilling Hub, and strong communication and analytical skills. A bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

This role reports to the Billing Manager .Position Summary:The Collections Specialist supports the firm's Revenue Management team by managing collection activities and partnering with Billing Attorneys to resolve payment issues. This role serves as a liaison among attorneys, clients, and firm staff, helping drive timely and effective collection of receivables while maintaining strong internal and client relationships.Key Responsibilities:Manages daily collection activities including inventory review and consultation with Billing Attorneys to address aged receivable issues and determine a collection strategyMeets with Billing Attorneys monthly to review aged investment balances and provide status of investment amounts to local and firm managementCollaborates with both internal and external clients to ensure collection efforts, support and align with the firm’s goalsAttends monthly collection team call to review outstanding balances, collection progress, payment issues, and follow-up itemsPrepares collection and A/R related reports for discussion with the Billing AttorneysOversees account reconciliation, prioritizing high-risk accountsEvaluates and recommends best practices on collection effortsContacts clients regarding payments and assesses the collectability of outstanding balancesReviews and analyzes short payments, ensuring timely resolutionCommunicate effectively A/R information to office and firm managementAttends onsite training and conduct business travel as neededFlexibility to work overtimeQualifications:Skills & CompetenciesHighly motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail and project management skills, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to work independentlyExemplifies excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication, analytical and negotiation skills, consistently maintains a professional demeanor, and thrives in collaborative, team-oriented environmentsAbility to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships within all levels of the firmMust have the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlinesExercises discretion when working with confidential, proprietary, and sensitive informationEducation & Prior ExperienceHigh school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance preferredMinimum three (3) years of collections experience, preferably in the legal or professional services industryKnowledge of both billing and collections processes requiredTechnologyAderant Expert, Expert Collections, and Ebilling Hub experience preferredProficiency with collection systems, financial systems, and other standard business tools preferredProficiency with Windows-based software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook requiredExceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quicklyUnderstanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in a professional environment.Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, firm-approved AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms) to support daily workflow and/or improve work quality.Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move from workstation or desk throughout the work area to work independently or with a team to meet with colleagues or supervisor and retrieve work assignments.This position may also be sedentary and require the employee to sit for extended periods of time.Requires manual dexterity to use a phone, enter data into a computer, handle objects, and use office equipment.The expected pay range for this position is:$40.23 - $46.18 per hourActual pay will be adjusted based on experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
