Job Summary: The Collections Manager is responsible for the management of the collections staff, ensuring compliance with firm, client, state, and federal laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). This role involves establishing quality control standards and managing the handling, compilation, sorting, verification, and accuracy of data.
Essential Duties:
- Manage production, compliance, client requirements, and collections metrics for a team of collection associates.
- Oversee department training and onboarding of new hires.
- Collaborate with the Collections management team on client-specific staffing and training.
- Assist collections staff in arranging debt repayment or establishing repayment schedules based on customers' financial situations.
- Work with the Director of Collections to ensure understanding and execution of firm, department, and client goals.
- Coordinate with Department Supervisors and Leads to manage specific stoplights and ensure timely completion of duties.
- Generate and analyze reports to assist in managing collections staff performance.
- Complete monthly collector scorecards and review them with staff.
- Communicate effectively with associates and management as part of daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with all collections processes and procedures.
- Read and enter data from source documents such as canceled checks and bills.
- Store completed documents in appropriate databases.
- Identify and correct data entry errors, escalating issues as necessary.
- Maintain information in written or electronic form.
- Train and coach team members on compliance and collections processes.
- Manage team schedules and work assignments.
- Assist with department operations as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Collections Director to develop goals and incentives.
- Understand risk elements of collections work and the importance of accuracy.
- Provide excellent customer service through needs assessment and quality standards evaluation.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisor/manager position in collections, legal, banking, or business field is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
