Job summary

University of Notre Dame in Gary, IN is seeking Tutors for the Tutor-CogSci Collaborative to deliver evidence-based literacy tutoring to K-3 students. You will mentor students, collaborate with tutors and faculty, and contribute to curriculum development within a supportive learning community.

The role emphasizes strong relationships, instructional coaching, and opportunities to observe and contribute to student progress. Training, safety guidelines, and background checks will be provided.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with youth in an educational setting.
• Comfort using basic educational technology.
• Ability to commute to designated school partner sites in Gary, IN.
• Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct Student Support: Deliver structured, evidence-based literacy instruction to assigned students in 1-on-1 or small group formats.
• Relationship & Engagement: Build a positive, encouraging environment that honors student voice and fosters growth.
• Collaborative Design & Training: Participate in team meetings, safety onboarding, and ongoing instructional coaching with university faculty.
• Progress Tracking & Reflection: Monitor student learning, collaborate on progress reports, and adapt instruction to needs.
• Program Innovation (Optional): Contribute to curriculum refinement, peer observations, or education research projects.
