Job summary

UW Health in Wisconsin is seeking a Coding Quality Analyst for a remote role. You will audit inpatient coding for accuracy, provide guidance, and help onboard new coders. The position emphasizes guideline maintenance, updates, and cross-team collaboration on DRG issues.

Flexible start times; full-time schedule with remote work eligibility in approved states. Qualified candidates have 3+ years inpatient coding experience, CCS or CIC certification, and a medical coding background.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a medical coding program or health information program.
  • 3+ years inpatient coding in acute care to include MS-DRGs/APR-DRGs.
  • CCS or CIC certification required; RHIT/RHIA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess inpatient coding accuracy via retrospective and concurrent audits.
  • Provide feedback on audit results and answer coding questions.
  • Assist training and onboarding of new inpatient coders.
  • Maintain internal coding guidelines and disseminate updates.
  • Collaborate with Coding and CDI teams on DRG issues and reviews.

Job description

This is a Monday - Friday, 40 hours per weekday shift position. Start time is flexible between the hours of 6am - 9am CST, eight hours per day is required. This is a remote position. We are seeking a Coding Quality Analyst to:
  • Assess the accuracy and completeness of the coding of inpatient cases by performing retrospective and concurrent audits and to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide feedback to coding team members regarding audit results and respond to coding questions.
  • Assist with the training and onboarding new Inpatient Coders, including auditing.
  • Maintain internal coding guidelines; research, prepare and disseminate information related to official coding guidance updates.
  • Work collaboratively with the Coding and CDI Quality Analyst teams for DRG issues and other operational activities, including internal and external secondary coding reviews.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a medical coding program required. Two (2) years of Coding experience may be considered in lieu of the medical coding program in addition to the experience below.
  • Graduate of a Health Information Technology Program preferred.
Work Experience
  • 3 years of progressive acute care hospital inpatient coding experience to include experience coding MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs required.
  • 5 years or more of inpatient coding experience in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Experience with coding quality audits and improvement projects preferred.
    Licenses & Certifications
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) required.
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
