Job summary

Texas Health Resources is seeking a Coding Quality Education Analyst (Inpatient) to support remote coding education and auditing. The role will focus on ensuring accurate DRG assignments, CPT/ICD coding, and documentation compliance across inpatient records.

The ideal candidate has RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P or related credentials, 3+ years inpatient coding experience, and the ability to audit and educate on coding standards.

Qualifications

  • Education in health information services or related field is required or a HS diploma with coding experience.
  • 2 years coding experience in lieu of degree is required.
  • 3 years coding in acute care setting required; 1 year audits preferred.
  • RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPMA/APCIC/CDIP/CDDS or equivalent certifications required upon hire.
  • RN with certifications also acceptable as listed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs auditing of medical records and validates DRG, diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Assists leadership in organizational improvement efforts.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in coding practices.
  • Maintains professional accountability in coding quality.

Coding Quality Education Analyst (Inpatient)

Work location: Remote, however, some onsite training may be required. Work hours: Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm but some flexibility on hours.

  • Education Associate's Degree Health Information Services, Nursing, or related field REQUIRED or H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 Years Coding experience in lieu of degree REQUIRED
  • Experience 3 Years Coding in an acute care setting REQUIRED and 1 Year Performing coding and documentation audits preferred
  • Licenses and Certifications RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator Upon Hire REQUIRED
  • Or RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire REQUIRED
  • Or CCS - Certified Coding Specialist Upon Hire REQUIRED
  • Or CCS-P - Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based Upon Hire REQUIRED
  • Or CPMA - Certified Medical Auditor Upon Hire REQUIRED
  • Or APCIC - Certified Inpatient Coder Upon Hire REQUIRED

Skills
  • Proficient in software applications (Excel, Word, Optum CAC, EPIC).
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT-4.
  • Expert in coding convention/automated encoder (knowledge management of NCCI/OCE billing edits).
  • Knowledgeable in APC and DRG methodologies and all regulatory/payer requirements associated with coding.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an ability to apply THR coding policies and procedures to record review process.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal initiative to keep abreast of new developments in coding updates/technology/research/regulatory data.
  • Successful completion of ICD-10 AHIMA Academy training and certification (Preferred).
