Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City, NV seeks a senior-level coding specialist to assign MS-DRG, ICD-10-CM diagnoses and procedures, and POA indicators for inpatient and LTACH services based on clinical documentation.

You will collaborate with Revenue Cycle to ensure timely, accurate data abstraction and support the organization’s quality and financial goals. This role demands attention to detail, strong coding knowledge, and cross-team collaboration in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Active credentials required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CIC.
• Minimum of three years inpatient hospital coding experience, or two years as clinical coder 2.
• Experience with MS-DRG coding and POA indicators is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assign compliant MS-DRG, ICD-10-CM diagnoses, ICD-10-CM procedures and POA indicators for hospital inpatient and LTACH.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle to meet timeliness, quality and financial goals.
• Ensure complete and accurate abstraction of medical record data.

Summary

As senior level coding specialist, assigns compliant, complete and accurate coding MS-DRG's, ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, ICD-10-CM procedure codes, and Present on Admission (POA) indicators for the hospital inpatient, and LTACH on services based upon the clinical documentation provided within the medical record. Works collaboratively with other members of the Revenue Cycle to complete all essential responsibilities in a timely fashion to meet the quality, utilization, and financial needs of the organization. Ensures complete and accurate abstraction of the medical record data.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum of one of the following active credentials: o AHIMA RHIA or RHIT or CCS or AAPC CIC


• Three years of previous inpatient hospital coding experience or two years as a clinical coder 2.

Preferred

• Active AHIMA membership


• Active AAPC membership


• Associate's degree in health information technology from an accredited program.
