Job summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a Coder I for Home & Community Care Admin to code outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Remote work is offered with equipment provided and internet access supplied by the caregiver.

Requires 1 year of related coding experience, an accredited coding program or certificate, and certification progress within a year. Residency in WA/OR/AK is mandatory for employment.

Qualifications

  • Accredited coding program or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of coding experience.
  • Within 1 year: multiple coding certifications including CPC/HIA/RHIA/RHIT/CCA/CCS/Outpatient coder/Hospital coder.

Responsibilities

  • Review documentation and codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 for reimbursement, research, and compliance.
  • Abstract information from medical records.
  • Identify and correct errors with submitting departments.
  • Review and correct claim and code edits as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of CMS requirements and coding guidelines.

Job description

Coder I - Home & Community Care AdminPeaceHealth is seeking a Coder I - Home & Community Care Admin for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $23.74 – $35.62. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc. This position will be performed fully remote. If telecommuting, PeaceHealth will provide the caregiver with necessary computer equipment. It is the responsibility of the caregiver to provide Internet access. ***Must reside in Washington, Oregon, or Alaska.***

Job Summary

Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding software, coding conventions, local medical review policy, APC's, and hospital procedures to code outpatient medical records with ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding classification systems to ensure accurate, complete and consistent coding for quality data.

What You Will Do:
  • Review medical record documentation and codes diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding conventions for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal and third-party payor regulations.
  • Review the medical record to assure specificity of diagnoses, procedures and appropriate/optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
  • Abstract information form medical records following established methods and procedures.
  • Identifies problem documents and works with submitting departments to correct errors, including potential charging errors.
  • Reviews and corrects claim and code edits as required.
What You Bring:
Education
  • Accredited Program Required: Coding or a combination of education and experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job or Preferred: Completion of a formal coding certificate/education program
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year
  • Preferred: Directly related work experience abstracting and coding information using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems

  • Proficient in MS Office (Required)

  • 3M or other CAC experience strongly (Preferred)
  • Epic EMR experience (Preferred)
Working Conditions

Consistent operations of computer and other office equipment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work. Predominantly operates in an office environment. Mental/Visual Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
