Job summary

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to perform inspections and enforce health and safety codes within the Health and Code Department. This role focuses on opening inspections for various facilities and responding to complaints to protect the community.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, plus relevant experience; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
  • Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer License within one year.
  • Must obtain Food Manager Certification within one year.
  • Must have valid Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure code compliance and approve openings for restaurants, day cares, schools, and other facilities.
  • Regularly visit Edinburg businesses and residences; respond to complaints.
  • Inspect commercial and residential locations to ensure codes are followed; provide helpful customer service.
