Job summary

City of Santa Cruz is seeking a Code Compliance Specialist to enforce building, zoning, fire, housing and health codes through inspections, investigations, and coordinated enforcement actions. You will explain regulations to property owners and guide them toward compliant paths.

Under general direction, you will prepare reports, interpret codes, and coordinate with other agencies while building relationships with the public and City departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in planning, urban studies, political science, or related field.
• 1 year of experience related to building/housing codes and zoning enforcement.
• High school diploma + ICC certification and 2 years of related experience (alternative).

Responsibilities

• Performs building and site inspections using approved procedures.
• Compiles, analyzes and evaluates investigation findings.
• Coordinates investigations with other regulatory agencies.
• Prepares reports, ordinances, and field notes.
• Issues citations for non-compliance.
• Advises owners on proper compliance procedures.
