Job summary

Orange County Government in Orlando, FL seeks a Code Compliance Inspector to enforce county codes, perform initial and follow-up inspections, and prepare documentation for the Code Enforcement Board. Work is conducted with considerable independence under supervision, coordinating with Sheriff's Office and other agencies to resolve violations.

The position requires a high school diploma, 3 years of code enforcement experience, FL driver’s license, and FACE certification within one year.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent with 3 years in code compliance/enforcement or related field; substitution allowed year-for-year.
• Must possess and maintain a Florida Driver's License.
• FACE Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts initial and follow-up inspections using mobile data applications for complaints received by telephone, writing, or observation.
• Patrols the County in a marked vehicle to identify violations of County Ordinances.
• Researches property ownership, zoning, and building records to verify site location and code compliance.
• Prepares and maintains case files with documents and photographs for staff recommendations to the Code Enforcement Board.
• Interacts with agencies (Sheriff's Office, Transit District, Chambers of Commerce) to coordinate enforcement efforts.
• Negotiates with citizens/businesses to achieve compliance or propose alternatives.
• Responds to citizen questions on zoning and County issues.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
