Job summary

The City of Fort Collins is seeking a full-time Code Compliance Inspector (Nuisance) in Building Services to enforce city environmental health, safety and nuisance codes. This civilian role conducts education, inspections, investigations and enforcement to ensure compliance with municipal codes and land use regulations in neighborhoods and commercial properties.

Three years of related experience or education are required.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years related experience/education
• Related experience in code compliance, inspections, regulatory enforcement, property maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

• Conducts proactive patrols and responds to complaints involving potential violations of municipal codes, land use regulations and related requirements to identify and address public health, safety, nuisance and neighborhood livability concerns.
• Inspects properties, sites, and other locations; investigates alleged violations; evaluates observations and available evidence; and determines appropriate compliance actions within established codes and delegated authority.
• Applies and interprets applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations to explain requirements, identify violations and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Initiates and carries out enforcement actions, including issuing notices and civil or criminal citations when authorized and coordinating property correction or abatement through approved contractors when necessary.
• Educates property owners, tenants, developers, and other stakeholders on applicable requirements, explains violations and corrective actions and recommends solutions that promote voluntary compliance and prevent recurring issues.
