Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a Code Compliance Officer to perform field inspections, enforce zoning and building laws, and manage case files. The role requires collaboration with senior officers and adherence to the collective bargaining terms with Teamsters Local Union 769.

The position may require flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to fulfill enforcement duties and ensure public safety and compliance across residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years of paid public-facing work experience (code enforcement, planning, building inspection, construction, security, or related field).
• F.A.C.E. Certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire and maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct reactive and proactive field inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant parcels.
• Enforce state, municipal, zoning, waterways, business tax, building laws and regulations.
• Prepare and maintain case files, testify at hearings, and present investigations in a formal setting.
• Research applicable policies, laws, and permitting requirements; identify property ownership.
• Provide code compliance information to address client issues and educate interested parties.
• Attend homeowner and civic association meetings and issue notices of violations.
