Job summary

Elko County is seeking a mid-level Building Inspector to inspect and enforce a broad set of building codes, including IBC/IRC/NEC, under the supervision of the Building Official. The role involves plan review, permitting, and field inspections for residential and light commercial projects.

The ideal candidate has ICC certifications, several years of inspection experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience with a public or private entity conducting building inspections; and minimum of 4 years of progressive building-related construction experience OR 1 year of technical/vocational training in the International Uniform Codes or equivalent.
• Experience with plan review for residential and light commercial projects; knowledge of IBC, IRC, NEC and local codes.

Responsibilities

• Write correction notices for deficiencies in construction jobs.
• Make building inspections for compliance with all International, Uniform and National Building Codes.
• Write permit applications for all types of building construction.
• Determine cost evaluations for building permits.
• Analyze submitted plans for building construction type and occupancy group.
• Determine setbacks from property lines per County Planning Commission criteria.
• Issue Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing permits.
• Communicate with permit applicants on code requirements for design.
