Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking an R&D Engineer II in Minneapolis to lead development and testing of solvent and waterborne liquid coatings. You will collaborate with formulators, marketing, sales, and customers to advance technologies and meet performance and warranty expectations.

You will apply specialized knowledge in liquid coating processes, conduct experiments, and drive continuous improvement while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry or Engineering required or similar
• 3+ years in liquid coating application, technical service, or R&D
• Experience with conventional air-spray, HVLP, pressure pots, and electrostatic hand spray

Responsibilities

• Communicating effectively with managers, customers, vendors, and stakeholders
• Hands-on development: applying, curing, and testing of new coating products
• Analyzing data to identify trends and support project advancement
• Leading technically complex projects with minimal supervision
• Establishing timelines and identifying resource needs
• Apply knowledge in liquid application equipment and coating chemistry to develop superior coatings
• Maintain housekeeping standards and lab equipment
• Implement continuous improvement efforts
• Mentor lower-level engineers and technicians
