Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking an R&D Manager, Commercial Applications in North America to lead the Industrial Wood Division's application laboratory and act as the technical expert for product application, rheology, and performance optimization. You will drive development, testing, training, and collaboration with customers and internal teams to validate products and improve processes.

The role involves hands-on support during customer trials, line audits, and development of application

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field required.
5+ years of management/leadership experience in a matrix environment.
Knowledge of conventional Industrial Wood Coatings line application equipment and rheology.
Experience with solvent-borne and UV coatings, and 100% solids systems.
Familiarity with coating measurement techniques (film thickness, gloss, color).
Experience performing line audits and working with customers on applications.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop the application laboratory and oversee product application testing.
Support stage-gate product development, investigations, benchmarking, and training.
Coordinate resources, substrates, equipment time, and material quantities for projects.
Provide feedback to formulation and quality teams based on application results.
Develop and validate IW application procedures, line audits, and customer training.
Manage equipment maintenance and capital planning for new equipment.
Mentor team members and coordinate external communications and scheduling.
