Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking a senior chemist to lead coatings R&D in Minneapolis. You will develop, test, and scale new coating formulations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate science into market-ready products.

Ideal candidates hold a BS in chemistry or related STEM, with 5+ years in coatings/adhesive R&D, extrusion knowledge, and strong data analysis skills. Advanced degrees and 7+ years of experience are a plus. This on-site role requires travel as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Science degree required in science, engineering, chemistry, or a related STEM field.
Minimum of 5 years in coatings, polymer, thermoplastic, thermoset, or adhesive R&D.
Minimum 5 years industry experience in coating applications or formulations (liquid, powder, electrodeposition).
Understands extrusion and dispersion; full-scale manufacturing experience of coatings/polymers/adhesives.
Preferred: Advanced degree and 7+ years in related R&D; data visualization and experimental design experience.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with Industrial Sales, Technical and Marketing to win and maintain customers.
Communicates with managers, customers, vendors, and stakeholders; delivers presentations.
Analyzes data to identify trends and inform project progression.
Leads technically complex projects with minimal supervision.
Develops coatings via hands-on formulation, processing, testing, and scale-up.
Adheres to safety policies and lab documentation.
