Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Coatings Inspector I to perform basic inspections of protective coating work under senior supervision. You will verify surface prep, measure film thickness, and document the coating process across tanks, structural steel, pipe, and concrete.

Responsibilities include recording ambient conditions, ensuring SSPC/NACE standards are met, and keeping a detailed inspection log with photographs.

Qualifications

• Must have AMPP CIP Level 1 certification and be currently certified.
• Minimum 1+ years in industrial coatings application or inspection.
• Comfortable working around tanks, structures, blasting and spray operations.
• Meticulous with instruments and records.
• Honest about what the gauge reads.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during applications.
• Verify surface preparation per SSPC/NACE cleanliness and profile standards.
• Measure wet and dry film thickness; check for holidays and defects.
• Verify coating materials, batch numbers, mixing, and pot life.
• Maintain daily coating inspection log and photograph each stage of work.
