Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Federal Way, WA. This entry-level, temporary role supports project teams across planning, design, and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects.

The internship provides exposure to CAD/BIM tools, data collection, and basic analyses while learning Moffatt & Nichol workflows under direct supervision.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering or related field at an accredited college or university; junior standing preferred
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred
• Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals: grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, site layout
• Exposure to CAD tools; learning MicroStation or Civil 3D
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Clear communication; asks questions and accepts feedback constructively
• All new hires must pass a pre-employment background check and comply with E-Verify

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
• Prepare drawings and draft documents under guidance
• Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, and geotechnical/hydrologic data
• Produce basic drawings, models, calculations, or code under direct supervision using CAD/BIM or similar tools
• View and measure 2D/3D models to support the project team
• Follow CAD/BIM standards and workflows for plotting/publishing
• Document assumptions, processes, and results for supervisor review
• Support engineers and project managers by delivering drawings, files, and data
