Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Coal Equipment Operator to ensure safe and efficient operation of coal-handling equipment, including conveyors, shovels, cranes, and rail locomotives. You will load, unload, and move coal and materials, perform routine maintenance, and assist in training other staff.

The position requires a 2-year technical degree or a high school diploma with related military or electric utility experience; certifications must be maintained and routine training completed.

Qualifications

• Requires a 2-year technical degree or a high school diploma with two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
• Must have performed duties of Equipment Operator-Junior and maintain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate coal handling equipment including conveyors, shovels, cranes, and locomotives.
• Load, unload, and move coal and materials; couple/uncouple railroad cars and signal locomotive operators.
• Inspect and perform lubrication on equipment; assist in training other employees.
• Secure and transport coal samples as directed; inspect fire equipment as assigned.
• Report irregularities to supervision and assist in related tasks.
• Perform similar or less skilled work as needed.
