Job summary

Tucson Unified School District is seeking a temporary high school coach at Sahuaro High School to promote sportsmanship and supervise athletes during practice and events. The role emphasizes safety, diplomacy with players, parents, and officials, and reflects classroom values in all interactions.

Required certifications include Arizona teaching/substitute/coaching certificates and NFHS coaching coursework, plus NFHS concussion and CPR/First Aid.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona teaching or substitute or coaching certificate, plus NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching (employee expense).
• NFHS Concussion certificate and other health/safety certifications required.
• Current CPR w/AED and First Aid certifications; fingerprint clearance.

SUMMARY

Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in student athletes. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants. Supervise students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses and at all times during the season. Exercise patience, tolerance and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials and spectators. Interscholastic activities are an extension of the classroom and as such, your actions, behavior and interactions with our student athletes should be reflective of this.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Arizona Teaching CertificateORValid Arizona Substitute CertificateORValid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense)Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes:NFHSFundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition to the above, all coaches (varsity head coach & assistant coaches) must have current certifications:

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention TrainingORNFHSStudent Mental Health and Suicide Preventioncertificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-lineclassesare not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement)
  Current First Aid (On-lineclassesare not accepted;EMT license supersedes this requirement)

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

• Bloodborne pathogen training after hire by TUSD Risk Management Department
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization

LOCATION: Sahuaro High School -Broadway & Camino Seco Area

Season Dates: February into May

STIPEND to be prorated for days missed in the sports season due to late starts or early terminations.

This position is temporary and not eligible for district benefits.
