Job summary

Tucson Unified School District seeks a high school coach to promote sportsmanship and ensure the safety and welfare of student athletes throughout the season at Sahuaro High School, Broadway & Camino Seco area. The role involves supervising practice areas, buses, and events while maintaining professional conduct.

The position is temporary, stipend-based (season Nov to March) with prorated pay for days missed; not eligible for district benefits. Non-discrimination policy applies.

Qualifications

• Valid AZ Teaching, Substitute, or Coaching Certificate with NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching.
• NFHS Concussion, and health/wellness certifications.
• Current CPR w/AED and First Aid; AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

• Ensure safety and welfare of participants in practice areas, locker rooms, buses, and during the season.

Job description

Summary

Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in student athletes. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants. Supervise students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses and at all times during the season. Exercise patience, tolerance and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials and spectators. Interscholastic activities are an extension of the classroom and as such, your actions, behavior and interactions with our student athletes should be reflective of this.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate OR Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate OR Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense) Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Coaching Certifications

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention Training OR NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention certificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement) Current First Aid (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement)
• Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Requirements Prior To Start Date

• Bloodborne pathogen training after hire by TUSD Risk Management Department
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization

LOCATION: Sahuaro High School-Broadway & Camino Seco Area

Season Dates: November into March

STIPEND to be prorated for days missed in the sports season due to late starts or early terminations.

This position is temporary and not eligible for district benefits.
